Switzerland has opened up a small chocolate factory to create a small-batch, artisanal chocolate that will be available in the United States.
The Chocolate with an Austrian Twist opened in the city of Lausanne, Switzerland, on March 6.
The chocolate maker, Swiss Chocolate, has made chocolate since the 1940s and its production process is a “modern, organic approach,” according to the company.
“We are trying to create an artisanal product, but also something with a lot of Austrian traditions,” said company owner Hans-Georg Gebhard.
“It’s a unique chocolate that we have created in our factory,” he added.

The company will begin selling the product in the U.S. on May 3, 2018.
Gebhart said the company is focusing on making a chocolate that’s more artisanal, like the famous Austrian chocolate, but has also been thinking about a chocolate with a “Austrian twist.”
The company’s chocolate was created in collaboration with local Austrian chocolate makers, Gebhart told CNN.
“We’re using old-fashioned techniques to create the chocolate, which is the most authentic way to make chocolate,” he said.
This Austrian chocolate is produced using traditional Austrian techniques, including soaking and cooling the chocolate in a cold bath, and then boiling it, the company said.
“There’s no cream or sugar, just pure chocolate,” Gebharst said.
“It’s an unusual way to produce chocolate, and we’re hoping that the American market will enjoy it.”
Gebharts’ company will also produce a few other Austrian chocolate products.
For example, the chocolate maker will also make a chocolate version of the popular German chocolate, with chocolate-laced chocolate nibs.
But he said the biggest appeal of the Austrian chocolate that he plans to make is to American customers.
“Americans like to see something unique and distinctive,” Gibhart said.
The company plans to have the product ready for sale in the next few months.
