AUSTRALIA’S future may be shaped by how President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, shapes America’s.
It’s all about the way Mr Kushner is running his business empire.
The President’s son, Donald Trump Jr, says Mr Kushner’s role in the Trump Organisation, the world’s largest real estate empire, is “a very positive influence”.
“The Trump Organization is the one that is most in touch with the American people.
They have a very strong voice, very strong presence in the country,” Mr Kushner said on ABC radio.”
It’s an exciting moment for America and I think we’ll see some of that really accelerate the change.”
Mr Kushner is in the midst of a massive reorganisation of his family’s empire after years of financial problems and turmoil.
He has become the second senior member of his administration to resign, following Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin who was forced to resign in the wake of revelations of his finances.
Mr Kushner has been appointed by Mr Trump to run the Trump Organization, but he is already embroiled in a fierce battle with his former business partners over the direction of the company.
The Trump Organisation is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the Trump family.
A lawyer for Mr Kushner declined to comment.
Mr Trump has been under intense scrutiny from members of Congress and the public about his finances and the way he operates his business.
But Mr Kushner insists his company is run in the interests of his children and his family.
He told ABC radio the US has “an extraordinary opportunity” to take the next big step in the world, when the Trump name is “recognised worldwide”.
“It was built on trust and confidence,” he said.
“And that’s what we want.
We want to be able to do that and make sure that this name is recognised and respected globally.”
He also said he believed the “huge success” of his company, which has generated more than $5bn in revenue since it was founded in 1997, was down to the US government.
“I think what’s really important is the way the President’s presidency has changed the way people think about the US, the way they think about their country,” he told ABC Radio.
“We have a massive opportunity to take this country to a new level.
We have an incredible opportunity to be the world leader in creating this new kind of economy.”
