Made-up and handmade chocolate shels have become popular among collectors.
The small, but growing market of handmade chocolate flower flowers, often adorned with a handmade, edible flower, is growing quickly, with a handful of sellers selling in New England.
“It’s grown in a very small way,” said Kelly McNeill, a certified apiarist and owner of Chocolate Flower Designs in Boston, Mass.
“We do about 10 to 15 each month.”
Customers say they want to know how they are getting their money back, whether the flowers are edible, and whether the customer will be happy with the purchase.
“I want them to be happy, to feel that I am getting something,” said Mary Geller, a business owner who has been selling handmade chocolate flowers for about five years.
“If I make the flowers look good, people are going to want them.
I don’t want to lose a sale.”
Called handmade chocolate, they are sometimes made to order, sometimes from a supplier.
McNeill said the growing interest in handmade flowers is partly due to the trend of people buying handmade flowers for the first time.
“People are just trying to do something new, and people don’t necessarily know what they are looking for,” she said.
McNeese’s is the latest company to introduce handmade chocolate.
Last year, the chocolate company also released a limited edition floral arrangement made to the original recipe, which was made by McNeill’s mother, in a similar fashion to the floral arrangement on the shelf.
McNeil said the flower arrangement is a good way to show off handmade chocolate.
“It’s really simple,” she explained.
“It’s just a beautiful arrangement.”
For those who don’t have the patience for traditional flower arrangements, or don’t know where to start, the flower arrangements are available at several different locations in New York City, including McNeeses flagship store.

Mc Neeses was established in 1854 by two sisters, Margaret and Mary.
Their sister, Mrs. E. M. Neeley, died in 1885 and their mother, Elizabeth, died a year later.
The family business started in New Hampshire, with McNees first selling dried flowers at the New Hampshire Fair.
After a run in Connecticut, she moved the business to Massachusetts, where she opened her first store in 1879.
McNEESES is now based in Newburyport, Mass., and sells about 2,200 flowers a year.
McNeill said that while it’s hard to say how many flowers are sold, she does expect the flower collection to grow.
“For the most part, we are seeing a steady increase in the number of orders,” she told ABC News.
McNees has had a number of customers request handmade flowers.
“They are very beautiful, they look good,” she noted.
“And people have really enjoyed the experience.
It is something that is very, very unique.”
